| FLY FISHING:
I started fly fishing during the summer of 1983 on a vacation to Colorado. As I was growing up I never cared for fishing, but that was, I think, because I had never tried fly fishing. Through the mid 1980’s I "practiced" quite a bit but never caught a fish. After deciding that I wanted to continue with this sport, I read as much as I could on the subject and also watched other fishermen on the water. By about 1986 or 87 I was finally able to cast fairly well and also was able to catch fish. I had finally learned a little about trout habits and the types of flies that seemed to work. By 1989 I went with a friend, Dick McFadden, and taught him the rudiments of casting and fly selection. In 1990, I took my wife's Dad & Mom. Over the next 4 years, I took other friends from work and taught them also. I have fished the area around Winter Park and Fraser quite a bit. I’ve also fished in the Salida area. Now I am going to try to cast my line in the area of Durango, Colorado. |
