SKIING:
The logo pictured above is the logo of the Professional Ski Instructors of America, of which I am a Level 3 or full certified member. I started skiing as a recreational skier in 1969, shortly after I got out of the US Army. I only skied a few times that year, but then made up my mind that that I would pursue the sport in earnest during 1970. In February of 1971, I became an instructor at Chestnut Mt. Ski Resort in Galena, IL. In 1973 I left Chestnut to become the ski school director at Sundown, in Dubuque, IA. In 1974 I passed Associate (the present Level II) Certification and in 1977 I passed Full (the present Level III) Certification. In 1978 I started Sundown’s handicapped skiing program and then hosted the next 3 years of the Midwest Regional Handicapped Races. In 1979, I was inducted into the Adaptive skiing section of the National Ski Hall of Fame at Ishpeming, MI, for hosting the 1978 race. In 1982 & 83, after leaving the job of director of the ski school, I was the NaStaR Administrator at Sundown. In 1984 through 1986 I was a member of the local ski patrol. I worked as their ski trainer and passed the National Ski Patrol test. In 1987 through 1999 I worked in the ski school as instructor, instructor clinician and as leader of the "college course". This last was a course for college credit with the local colleges, in which I taught, conducted the program, gave lectures and administered tests. I also had a stint as director of the ski school again. Effective 1 January, 2002 I have moved to Durango, Co and am working at Durango Mountain Resort as a Ski Instructor. |
